Frequently Asked Questions

What would you like to ask?

General

Q: What are the differences between the free trial version and the full version of Voovees Director?

A: The free trial version allows the user to use most of the features and functions of Voovees Director. The trial version has two limitations: your rendered output will be limited to the first 15 seconds, in low-resolution and has a Voovees Director watermark over it; and that only users of full version can get more content-packs as they become available.

The benefit of becoming a full version user:
- Your rendering ability id no longer limited and you can output to a range of different resolutions and video formats.
- You can post on our forum. Your support questions take priority.

Q: Do I need internet access to use Voovees Director?

A: For normal operations of Voovees Director you won't need to be connected to the internet. You only need it when Voovees Director checks and updates your DirectorX version online upon installation.

Q: I saw some really pretty items on the screenshots but I couldn't find them in my media folder.

A: We are in the middle of building the catalogue. The items on the catalogue are going to be avaible to full version users when it's ready.

Installation

Q: When I run Voovees Director for the first time after installation, I got an error message.

A: Check if you have the latest version of Visual Studio Runtime and DirectX installed. You can find the installation files in your "C:/Program Files/VooveesDirector/ThirdParty" folder or the "ThirdParty" folder in the installation directory you chose.

Q: I ran into problem when trying to install a new version of Voovees Director.

A: Make sure you completely uninstall the previous version before trying to install the new one. If you still have problems, contact our support at any time.

Getting Started

Q: Yay, I've opened my first scene but I can't select anything, why?

A: We've locked all static objects, trees, buildings in the scenes so they don't interfere with controlling characters. To unlock them open the outliner (F2), and click on the unlock botton of the objects that you wish to unlock.

Q: How do I create more than one of the same object? It takes too long to add them one at a time.

A: Select the object you want to duplicate and press the 'm' key. This works on characters too.

Q: I've rotated my object to a weird angle. How do I bring it upright again?

A: Select an object and press 'Alt + r' to reset it's orientation.

Q: I've rendered my scene into videos, now what?

A: Simply import the videos into windows movie maker, add sound and visual effects and then export the final video. You can also upload it to YouTube and use the YouTube video editing options to add in credits and subtitles/overlays. You can use AudioSwap to add background music too.

Navigation

Q: I'm using the mouse scroll/up key to move the camera, but it gets stuck.

A: The mouse scroll/up key is used to 'zoom in'. It will stop when the zoom reaches zero. You can use 'ASDW' to move the focus of the camera or select another object and press 'f' to focus on it.

Q: I moved some item around and now I don't know where it is.

A: Press F2 or click on the radial menu to open up the outliner, click on the object's name and it should be highlighted on the 3D window.

Q: How do I bring an object/character into focus?

A: Select the object you want to focus, and press 'f'. Press 'c' to toggle close-up mode. This is very useful for customising characters.

Body Animation

Q: I'm trying to combine animations and my character's arm/leg joint is in a weird angle!

A: Check if you have two sub-animations controlling the same body part at the same time. When such sub-animations are added to each other, the end result does not always look natural.

Q: HELP! When I add my skeleton animations, the character always has arm(s) sticking out straight.

A: That is the 'idle pose' of the arm when no animation is added. To keep it down, simply add a 'down0' animation to that arm.
